Expressing Conservative Views Shouldn't Be a "Brave"Thing

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

It's a sad reality that's taking place lately– being a conservative often leaves people scared to express their opinions and views. I've been vocal about my conservative views, at times taking a step back when the bullying and online attacks at my character become too much. Because I'm so vocal, I sometimes get direct messages on my social media from other young conservatives like myself, complimenting how "brave" I am for expressing my opinions.

This is what America has come to: one-sided free speech.

The fact that people have said it's brave to express my opinion in a country where we are apparently free to say what we want (with certain constitutional limitations, of course) really makes me wonder what this country has come to. We've seen it all across the country is politicians like Maxine Waters (D-California), in the street violence following the tragic shooting of Jacob Blake, and so on...

I think it's necessary to point out that I think in many cases, the use of lethal force by police could have been avoided. However, that's no justification for harassing or killing people who don't agree with you, looting and burning down businesses and homes, or anything of the like. While the Washington Post's Peniel Joseph would beg to differ, Martin Luther King's legacy of peaceful protest is being applied to all in the minds of many conservatives– not just to the "racially and economically oppressed."

It doesn't stop with harassment though, and it doesn't stop with riots. The tragic murder of a Milwaukee man by the name of Bernell Trammell, who was known to be vocal about his opinions with his community, but a very kind and peaceful man. While local police released pictures of the suspect, there are no headlines suggesting that any democrats– the mayor, state attorney general, or local congresswoman– ever heard or answered the calls from republicans to launch a state or federal investigation due to the potential political motives.

So why are republicans so scared to speak up right now? Why is it so "brave" to speak up?

Put simply: being a republican is dangerous, especially in heavily democratic areas.

Through the media and the social pressure being put on republicans (ie the assumption that most or all republicans are racist) we are being restricted. Think about facebook, instagram, and Twitter and the censorship of the New York Post. Our constitutional right to freedom of speech is being infringed upon not by any law, but by the left's clever and devious use of social psychology principles. It's terrifying how cult-like the ways they take advantage of groupthink and other theories are.

To further impose shame on conservatism and threaten those that believe in it, some major democrats such as "The Squad's" own Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are even going so far as to spearhead an effort to create a blacklist of Trump's supporters and representatives which should immediately make her subject to an ethics complaint. But then again, she is a democrat, and the political double standards are very real in many cases (besides the case of Maxine Waters, who really just made such inflammatory demands of supporters that the democrats had no choice but to at least file a complaint).

"If you hire someone who remained with the Trump admin after the election, be on notice you will be held accountable by MeidasTouch and we will ensure you are exposed.” ~ Ben Meiselas

It's evident that their strategic use of these social psychology principles is working though, because anyone who challenges someone who truly believes the left's narrative is likely to be met with an onslaught of insults, threats, and sometimes worse. (I don't want to make a gross overgeneralization either, so I want to point out that this is not all democrats are like this, but a large number show these aggressive behaviors towards conservatives which is exactly what shuts most conservatives up). I've been met with many comments using derogatory words, implications of my supposed idiocy, and claims that my opinions are somehow offensive– and to be clear, my belief as a conservative is that the government should not rule our lives quite as much as it does and it should not be taking so much of out money in taxes. How is that in any way offensive?

It's on this note that I want to tell you– all of you, leftists included– feel free to speak your opinions, but don't bully one another. Have a conversation, debate, don't attack one another. We all want the same things when it comes to the broader scope of things, so why can't we try to work together to get there? I know a majority of conservatives I've met and talked to are willing to have those conversations, and I've met a few– very few– liberals willing to have legitimate conversations about big topics. The rest attacked and unfollowed me or were blocked for routinely harassing me. Let's learn to think with our own brains again please, for the sake of our great constitutional republic, and for the sake of our own sanity.

It's also on this note that I want to ask any liberals that may be reading this somehow offended: If the election really was free and fair, why do so many democrats have a problem with investigations into the integrity (or lack thereof) of the elections? Why is there so much proof of voter fraud?
